Project Areas

Annapolis River

Annapolis River

The Annapolis River is located in the Annapolis Valley region of Nova Scotia, and flows 120 km southwest from Caribou Bog to the Annapolis Basin.

Historically, the Annapolis River was a spawning ground for Striped Bass, and this population was genetically distinct from other Bay of Fundy populations. Unfortunately, due to multiple factors, including the installation of the causeway and tidal turbine, and likely pollution, Striped Bass no longer spawn in this watershed.

Gaspereau River

Gaspereau River

The Gaspereau River flows northeast from White Rock Pond in the Gaspeareau Valley into an area known as "The Guzzle", a sub-basin of the Minas Basin.

It is a popular fishing area for Striped Bass anglers, and is an important area for several migratory fish species.

Stewiacke/Shubenacadie River

Stewiacke/Shubenacadie RIver

The Stewiacke River runs through the Stewiacke Valley beginning at Dryden Lake in Pictou County, and flows into the Shubenacadie River in Colchester County.

The Shubenacadie River Striped Bass population is believed to spawn in the Stewiacke River. Although the population experienced a decline between 1950 and 1975, it now appears to be relatively stable.
